Our mission at Corpus Christi School is both privilege and challenge. It is privilege in that it calls us to partner with Christ in sharing the message of the gospel, a message of hope and unconditional love. Our mission is challenge in that the very gospel values it lives and shares find a counterculture response in a society often dominated by consumerism, waste, and by neglect of the poorest among us. We strive to provide a school environment permeated with the gospel values of love and freedom. The inclusion of religious art works and symbols, while not fundamental in themselves, actually points the way to what is in essence fundamental, namely faith in Christ. The transition since Vatican II from the Catholic school as institution to the Catholic school as community is evident at Corpus Christi. Every person directly involved in Corpus Christi School is a part of this community, this family. However, our school family does not exist in isolation from the broader parish family. Indeed it is in strict accord with the dictates of the National Catechetical Directory which states: “As a community and an institution, the school has an independent life of its own. But a parochial school is also a community within a wider community, contributing to the parish upon which it depends and is integrated into its life. Integration and interdependence are major matters of parish concern. Each program in a total catechetical effort should complement the other.” All involved in Corpus Christi School take pride in its strong Catholic identity, an identity reflected in a complex mix of mission culture, people, environment, relationships and curricula. Maintaining this identity is not an end to be achieved, but rather a way of life to be lived. Our Catholic identity at Corpus Christi School is not something we “do” to our students, but it is the way we as a community, enlivened by our faith in Jesus, do everything. With these beliefs firmly in mind, our dream for our students is to see them
Yes, our mission at Corpus Christi School is both privilege and challenge and we welcome you to share in both.
